Guy Eldon McFatridge, Mizhakii Giizhig, was born May 22, 1962, to John "Danny" and Elaine (DeFoe) McFatridge in Cloquet. He grew up in Cloquet and lived in South Dakota while attending Flandreau Indian School, graduating in 1980.
Following graduation, Guy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving his country, Guy became a certified butcher and welder. He worked at a local meat market. Guy later went to school and became a heavy machine operator and worked for Fond du Lac Reservation for many years. He also worked for security at Black Bear Casino. Guy was a proud member of Fond du Lac Reservation.
He was a great golfer and enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, pool, cards, dice and darts. Guy especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and was a prankster. Guy passed away on May 11, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, at the age of 61 years.
Guy is survived by his partner, Jodi Ableiter of Cloquet; children, Shawn Randall of Cloquet, Katrina (Jeremy) Compton of Merrifield, Samantha-Jo McFatridge of Brainerd, Dana (Derrick) Houle-McFatridge of Cloquet, and Gy Houle-McFatridge of Cloquet; grandchildren, Naazhe, Nashon, Sequoia, Shea, Carson, Lindsey, Alexis and Skylar; brother, Gary McFatridge; aunts, Dorothy Cooley and Nancy Seppala; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elaine and Danny McFatridge; brother Thomas McFatridge; daughter-in-law, Waubie Randall; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A traditional wake for Guy was held Tuesday, May 14 with a traditional service Wednesday at the Cloquet Community Center. Interment is in the New Holy Family Cemetery. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
