Caroline Ruth Elmer, 85, of Cloquet passed away May 16, 2024, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, with her daughter Denise by her side.
Caroline was born July 16, 1938, the daughter of Eino and Jennie Paarni. She was raised in Cloquet along with her two siblings.
Caroline owned her own beauty shop in Cloquet and retired after managing an apartment complex in Brainerd.
During her lifetime she enjoyed downhill skiing, social time with friends, furniture refurbishing and knitting clothes for her grandchildren.
Caroline is survived by her daughter, Denise Segler of Brainerd; granddaughters, Katie Petersen of Pequot Lakes, and Taylor Segler of Brainerd; grandsons, Bret Petersen of Minneapolis, and Evan Segler of Brainerd; great-grandchildren, Lauren Schwankl of Pequot Lakes and Freyja Segler of Brainerd, and Ayla Carner, due this June.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eino and Jennie Paarni; stepfather, Leo Suominen; brother, Wallace Paarni; sister, Susan Soukkala; and stepsister, Joyce (Lloyd) Layon.
The family expresses special thanks to the entire Inter-Faith staff, Michele Gerard Golen for her loving care, and all the St. Croix Hospice staff.
A Celebration of Life for Caroline was scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. A graveside service was to follow at New Calvary Cemetery.
