Carlton Community CleanUp was held May 17. Despite the rainy and damp weather, 121 students and 13 staff braved the elements to rake 10 yards and the Hillside Cemetery. Lunch was prepared and served by the Carlton fire department. The sponsors of this community event were Thrivent Financial, Aaron Hanson of Third Base Bar, Super One of Spirit Valley, Duluth, Mike from Old Dutch Distributors, and Carlton Meat & Grocery, Carlton.
Rummage sale season is here, including at the Four Seasons complex. The next rummage sale there is Aug. 8-10, with spaces available for a donation to the Robert Rodd Scholarship Fund. Contact Leola at 218-310-6065 for more. Additionally, the “Gigantic Garage Sale” will be held Sept. 6-7 at the Four Seasons, a fundraiser for Carlton Youth Hockey. Donations are being accepted now; no clothes, please. Call Leola or Danielle, 218-590-1569. The Carlton Hockey Association is also looking for used skates and hockey equipment.
The Four Seasons Complex Sports and Event Center is available for small or large events. A special board meeting will be held on June 19 to vote on changes to the bylaws for the Carlton Amateur Hockey Association. All members are welcome to attend and vote on the bylaws. The regular meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
The Carlton VFW hosts live music by John Hatch June 8 and Ron Moshier on June 21, plus karaoke June 15. Check out bingo 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and the meat raffle 6 p.m. Fridays. Veterans interested in joining the Carlton VFW Post 2962 and/or the Carlton VFW Auxiliary, please contact the VFW at 218-384-3794.
The Carlton VFW Golf Tournament is June 29 at Ridgeview Golf Club. Sign up at the Carlton VFW or call for more information.
The Bethesda Mat Makers meet 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays at Bethesda Lutheran Church to make plastic mats from clean plastic shopping bags for those in need. If you are unable to volunteer on Tuesdays, contact Mary Saarela, 218-393-2693, for instructions on how you can work from home. Donate bags at the church or Northwoods Credit Union in Moose Lake and Cloquet.
The Carlton Lions Club is also collecting plastic bags to make benches. Drop off donations at the Carlton VFW.
