Jan Prevost, 81, of Cloquet passed away peacefully June 6, 2024, after battling pancreatic cancer. She was born Sept. 25, 1942, to John and Dorothy (Shovein) Lightfoot in Cloquet. She married Thomas Prevost on Sept. 26, 1964.
Throughout the years, Jan worked for First National Bank, North American Cable Company, Schafter’s Jewelry and Johnson Company. She also served as a guardian ad litem, on the board of directors for the Pine Ridge care center, and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
In her spare time, she loved to create handstamped greeting cards and crafts and do jigsaw puzzles. Jan also loved being outdoors and spent time camping, hunting, four-wheeling, and birdwatching with her family.
Above all, Jan will be remembered for her role as a mother and grandmother — not only to her own children, but to the many others who affectionately called her “Ma Prevost.” You immediately felt the love and care she radiated and ultimately became a member of her extended family.
Jan is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, Troy (Amanda Stygar) Prevost and Shane (ShawnMarie) Prevost; grandchildren, Morgan Pearson and Ryland Prevost, and Drake, Makena, Kasten and Kailei Prevost; siblings Cathy Hubbart, Mary Jean Ingbretson, Ken (Bonnie) Swanson, Linda (Michael) Kelly, and Connie (Brad) Wick; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters Betty Starkey and Carol Larson.
Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a 1 p.m. service Saturday, June 22 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred, and will be used by the family to support causes important to Jan, such as Essentia Hospice, pancreatic cancer research, and research and support for battling autism.
