Wright Cromwell news

A weak tornado touched down in Beseman Township last Wednesday, June12. I was home at the time, and the rain came down in sheets, along with the high winds whipping the trees around in my yard. It wasn’t until the next morning that I realized several large trees came down on the north side of my driveway, blocking the road.

My brother Mark Dahlman came over and cut the tree limbs back far enough for me to get out, but there will still be lots of logging to do to clean up the mess.

Mark also informed me that his home and former home on West Road were hit hard too. The wind snapped a light pole in half, trees were uprooted, he got a hole in the roof that let the rain pour in, and the power was out for hours. Trees along Center Road were down on the road in several places. But by the time I went to Wright the next day, they were trimmed up enough to travel the road.

The National Weather Service in Duluth inspected the area of the storms that night and determined the tornado traveled on the ground for nearly 8 miles, with a peak wind of 80 mph. Three other tornadoes were reported southwest of us, in Aitkin and Crow Wing counties.

Our sympathies to the family of Catherine “Kay” Heittola, 84, of Little Falls, who passed away May 6. She was extremely proud that at the age of 24, after giving birth to her first child, she went back to high school to earn her diploma at Cromwell High School.
