The next Ma & Pa Kettle Days committee meeting is 6 p.m. Sunday, July 14. Plan to attend.

The next Finnish Luncheon is 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 16. All are invited to attend. No reservations needed. Come and visit with friends.

National Night Out is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Kettle River senior center. Plan to come and visit with friends.

Ma & Pa Kettle Days is Aug. 9 and 10. There’s a steak fry Friday night, and a pancake breakfast, pie social, midway, mud bog and bingo on Saturday. More information to come later.

My sisters and I would make cookies a lot. One day, while making peanut butter cookies, we realized we had doubled one of the ingredients, so we had to then double the whole recipe. By the time we got that done, we had to use the crisper drawer from the refrigerator to have something big enough to finish getting everything completely mixed. Then we started baking. After several hours, we got too tired to finish, so had to put the rest of the dough in the refrigerator and finish it the next day. The original recipe made 12 dozen cookies, so you can imagine why we had to take two days to finish baking. Three days later, no cookies were left, so it was time to make some more. This time, we made only one batch and watched carefully to not make an error.
