Two Harbors firm will handle township engineering

Bollig Engineering, with an office in Two Harbors, was selected to be Thomson Township’s new engineering firm by unanimous vote at the township board’s June 20 meeting.

AE2S, the township’s latest engineering firm, had worked with Thomson for about three years, but its contract had expired. Thomson Township board of supervisors chair Ruth Janke said the board reassessed its needs and decided Bollig would be a better fit.

Although representatives from Bollig were unable to attend last Thursday’s meeting, they were excited to hear they were selected and want to attend July’s meeting, Janke said.

AE2S is still being retained for at least some aspects of ongoing projects, namely the River Bend and Southridge developments. Contracts are still in the works for both AE2S and Bollig.

Josh Evans, an assistant engineer with AE2S, told the Pine Knot his firm did not meet the township proposal’s requirement for a firm with a local representative with at least 10 years of experience. Evans said he hopes to see the township improve, and the board thanked him for his work.

$1,300 for new chair

The board approved the purchase of a new chair for zoning official Dan Stangle for up to $1,300 dollars. Stangle said his current chair is uncomfortable to the point he resorts to standing at his desk.

After months of trying multiple seating options, he suggested to the board a stool which cost about $1,800 — a price supervisor Terry Hill balked at. After a lengthy and at times pointed discussion, and a motion by supervisor Dave Sunnarborg for $1,900, which was met with silence and died for lack of a second, the board settled on $1,300 as an acceptable ceiling for Stangle to purchase a chair.
