One winter in about 1958 or 1959 an organization in Chicago asked if we would make doll clothes for needy children for Christmas. Quite a few of us signed up, and they brought us the dolls and the patterns to make the clothes. Several of us had our own sewing machines.
We were able to make several changes of clothes for each doll. The pattern had about six variations, so we would make several different outfits. We were also able to share fabrics, so we got many outfits without having to get more material.
I still had the pattern, so about 15 years later, when my 3-year-old niece stayed with me one fall, I was able to make some outfits for her doll. About 40 years later, she wanted some outfits for her children, so I found the pattern and gave it to her. I think the pattern cost about 25 cents, but I made about 15 or more outfits from it.
