Car shows are a big draw in county

Whether you love the old classics or Rat Rods are more your style, there are numerous summer car shows in and around Carlton County. Even if you missed Gordy's Curbside Classic on May 30 - it came early this year - or the big show during Spring Fever Days in Barnum, there are still lots of opportunities to see and be seen.

The Northeastern Hotel & Saloon hosts two car shows every summer: one on July Fourth from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the other 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Carlton Daze, July 29-31, features a car show along the main drag from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30.

The Smalley-Moen Memorial Car Show starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at the Buffalo House just outside of Esko (just across the county line ... but, close enough). It is easily the largest car show in the region.

Also just across the county line is the annual Proctor Car Show & Swap Meet held at the South St. Louis Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. The Proctor Hoghead Car Show follows on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from noon to 9 p.m.

McGregor Celebrates its annual Wild Rice Days Auto Show 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

Mahtowa hosts the Rat Rod Rendezvous on Labor Day weekend. It's actually two shows: Shine Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Rusty Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 1.

Labor Day itself brings car enthusiasts back to the Northeastern Hotel & Saloon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2.

There've been rumblings of organizing a car show during the West End Flourish September Celebration hosted by the Pine Knot News in Cloquet's Historic West End on Saturday, Sept. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. Certainly, Bridge's Customs will have several of their creations on display that day.
