Congratulations to Deb Nobis, who was honored as the 2023 Carlton County EMS Person of the Year. Deb is known as Mrs. Reliable — when the tones go off, there’s a good chance Deb is responding to the call. She has excelled at mentoring new members, serving in any role asked of her, and simply making the department a better place.

Scott Hakamaki received the 2023 Carlton County Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service with the Wright fire department and the Cromwell-Wright Area Fire District. Scott is the person department members look up to and aspire to emulate. His hard work, positive energy and constant support not only attracted people to the department but kept them from leaving. Although Scott has retired, the department holds its members to the standard he set.

Tom Gervais plays several roles within the Cromwell-Wright Area Fire District. Tom is the assistant chief, Relief Association president, and chief engineer, as he oversees the maintenance and repair of all department’s apparatuses. He exemplifies leadership and the department is better because of him.

Our sympathies to the family of Richard “Dick” Sandness, 90, who died June 30, 2024. He was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Seal Beach, California. He and his wife, Arlene (Paananen), both attended Cromwell High school. After Arlene’s death he returned to live in Wright in 2011, and eventually moved to the Villa Vista in Cromwell. He returned to California in July 2021 to be with family after the death of his friend Alice Lake. A celebration life event will be held in Cromwell later this year.

There’s a new sign in the area. It’s on the corner of Center Road and West Mud Lake Road, north of Wright, welcoming folks to Beseman Township. Check it out, as it’s a dandy.

The 13th annual Kaleb Anderson 5K Fun Run/Walk and pancake breakfast was a huge success. All proceeds go toward the memorial playground in Cromwell. Thank you to everyone who participated.
