Obituary: Ida "Fern" Anderson

Ida “Fern” Anderson, 98, of Carlton, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. Fern was born Oct. 29, 1925, to Gus and Mary Zimmerman in Fort Worth, Texas.

She graduated early from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth in January of 1943, then wentnorth on a Greyhound bus to St. Paul Bible Institute. She earned a diploma in missions. While attending the institute, she met George Anderson. On June 27, 1947, they were married. Together they served in the ministry field for 10 years in Tracy, Minnesota; Bloomfield, Montana; and Highmore, South Dakota.

Fern was a bookkeeper and business manager for Carlton Schools for more than 18 years, retiring in 1987. She was a founding member of Grace Church Cloquet and an active participant in their senior bible study. She was an avid quilter and reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Anderson; parents, Gus and Mary Zimmerman; sisters, Maude, Carrie, Velma and Mary Ruth; brother, Norman “Ted”; and two great grandchildren who never got to meet their families.

Fern will be missed by her children, Dr. David (Desh) Anderson, Kathleen (Mike) Eames, Mary Lynn (Ron) Carlson; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
