Wright/Cromwell news

Well, I did it again. Last week I wrote the Wright news, and the wrong news. It was Scott Lehti, not Scott Hakamaki, who received the 2023 Carlton County Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of service with the Wright fire department and the Cromwell-Wright Area Fire District. Congratulations, Scott.

To volunteer with the Cromwell-Wright Area Fire District, contact [email protected] or 218-644-3547 or 218-357-2080. All training is provided, no experience is needed, and the schedule is flexible. Become a firefighter or EMT, or both.

Congratulations to Lorraine Guentzel and Ann Heikkila on reaching 90 years of age. Lorraine celebrated on July 14, and Ann’s birthday is July 24. Cards and notes can be sent to Lorraine at Cardinal Court, 1220 Villa Court Dr., Cromwell, MN 55726, and to Ann at P.O. Box 112, Wright MN 55798. I’m sure these ladies would really appreciate hearing from you.

Our sympathies to the family of Lori Schulke Schug, 61, of Crystal, Minnesota, who died July 10. Lori and her family spent a lot of time in our area, as her parents, Wally and Jeanne Schulke, had a home on Center Road in Wright.

The Cromwell Area Community Club needs to order holiday Christmas lights soon. Donations of any amount are needed. Send donations to Cromwell Area Community Club, P.O. Box 190, Cromwell, MN 55726.

The Primary ballots for Carlton County are in the mail. They need to be postmarked no later than Aug. 13 to count. Some townships vote at polling places.

Marney Gellner made history as the first woman to call the play-by-play of a Minnesota Twins game recently. She filled in for Cory Provus and did a fine job. More power to her, and all women.
