Tuesday primary will pare the field

Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to decide who will advance to the Nov. 5 General Election in a number of races.

Voters in Carlton County’s District 5 (which includes a swath of western Carlton County including Moose Lake, Kettle River, Cromwell and surrounding areas) will choose two of six candidates to advance in the county commissioner’s race for that district. Voters in the county will also weigh in on the Sixth District judge’s race. Find candidate profiles for the District 5 county commissioner’s race on Page 4 and the judge’s race on Page 5. Both local races are non-partisan.

Partisan races on the ballot include two federal races. Lining up to challenge U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s seat are eight Republican and four Democratic candidates. Incumbent District Eight U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber will again face Harry R. Welty in the Republican primary, while Jen Schultz and John Munter compete on the Democratic side of the ballot.
