Old engines roaring again at Lakehead show

Take a trip to our agricultural past this weekend at the Lakehead Harvest Show. Located just off the intersection of Canosia and St. Louis River roads, this old-school working farm puts on a show every August. There's lots to see and do from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Aug. 23-25.

Volunteers demonstrate all kinds of farm activities using old-school equipment to thresh, plow, crush rocks, plane wood and even make shingles. There's also food, blacksmithing and sawmilling demonstrations, tractor pulls and a petting barn.

"It is a functioning farm," Lakehead president Ryan Hansen told the Pine Knot in 2022. "We grow the grain we thresh, the potatoes we sell are all grown there."

They use old-school tools, he said, estimating that the newest piece of equipment is probably from the mid-1950s.

Other attractions this weekend include a flea market, vintage craft activities, tractors galore, a daily kids pedal tractor pull, a petting barn and a variety of food.

Admission is $10 daily or $20 for a weekend pass, and free for children age 10 and younger.

Hansen said the weekend is the nonprofit Lakehead Harvest Reunion's largest fundraiser of the year. Their mission is preservation of the past, with the main focus on local farming, harvesting and general farm life throughout the past 100-plus years.
