Cloquet Labor Day parade organized

The annual Cloquet Labor Day parade is fast approaching. Look for plenty of political candidates in this year’s parade, which starts at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, and travels down Cloquet Avenue from 18th Street to Eighth Street. Once again, there will be food trucks in the city parking lot.

Labor day celebration president Chad Tuura is excited about this year’s celebration for two reasons: He’s got more help, and he’s hoping to see a large turnout, since it’s a presidential election year.

“I got an interesting call from a Democratic office that asked a lot of questions,” he said, noting that many of the statewide candidates don’t confirm they’re coming until the big day.

Line up for the parade around 10:30 a.m. on Avenue B westward from 18th Street; no forms are necessary, but a donation to the event is appreciated.

Tuura said he’s had help this year with passing out flyers and people helping with the parade. He’s hoping they’ll be able to add other events next year.

“Labor unions are still strong in this area and an important part of this community, so it’s important to keep the parade going,” Tuura said. “It’s a staple in our community.”
