Congratulations to Kettle River Days raffle winners: first prize, Sandra Merritt; second, Dennis Kaminski; third, Carol Forse; fourth, Lawrence Lundin; and fifth prize, Jeff Glaser.
A special thank-you to all those who donated money and food for the steak fry, and all the volunteers who worked many hours to make this event happen. Thank you, too, to all the vendors who made it a fun day. This event would not be possible without all those people. We need more volunteers to help us plan the next event, so watch for meeting notices, and come to a meeting with your ideas.
The Bookmobile is in Kettle River 1:30-2:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 and Sept. 16.

Kids are very literal. One day I was talking to a third-grade teacher. She said that one week they sang a different patriotic song each day. At the end of the week, she had the children draw pictures of their favorite songs. One little boy brought his picture for her to see. It was an airplane with apples, oranges, and bananas drawn on it. She asked the boy about his picture and he explained that it was the fruited plane.
