Wright/Cromwell News

The Cromwell Park Pavilion grand opening on Aug. 23 was a big success. There were several talks, workshops, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation booths, lawn games and, best of all, food. We sincerely thank the City of Cromwell, city council members, and Mayor Zelazny for all their hard work on getting our park in such great shape.

A $110,000 grant was secured for improved drainage as well as a DNR grant for outdoor recreation improvements, including a riverwalk along the banks of the Tamarack River with educational signage, a new parking lot and shaded sitting areas close to the Kaleb Anderson memorial playground, plus seasonal toilets. The volleyball courts were moved closer together to develop rain gardens. The total DNR grant project was $355,119 with some city matching funds.

When you have time, come on over and take the riverwalk and read the new informational signs along the path. Also, the rain gardens are peaceful and beautiful. The park is a great place to stop in on your travels. The kids can get out and play on one of the best city playgrounds in the area.

Yes, the Area Clothing Depot closed as of Aug. 24. The Carlton County Disabled American Veterans volunteers came on Monday and took everything that was left. Yes, it was a great run, but the time came for it to close. The depot had been in operation since 1992. Now, it’s up to a younger generation to start a thrift store if there is ever to be one again. We thank all the faithful volunteers over these many years for their dedication, work ethic, and general helpfulness. You were a blessing to so many folks.

Our sympathies to the family of Edie Kumm, 91, who died Aug. 17 in Duluth. Edie was a longtime resident of the Wright area. She was a founding member of Wrong Days in Wright. Her obituary was in last week’s Pine Knot.

Bethlehem/Bethany Lutheran churches are looking for two high school seniors who would be interested in becoming youth group coordinators, which are paid positions. Call Margie McCuskey at 713-569-4568 if interested.
