Officer promoted to police sergeant

Cloquet Police Officer Trevor Kaldor was officially promoted to patrol sergeant during the Cloquet City Council meeting Aug. 20.

Kaldor has been with the Cloquet department since May 2020. According to police chief Derek Randall, Kaldor was already considered an informal leader among his peers, “especially with our younger and less experienced officers.” He was one of several internal candidates who applied for the job.

Kaldor has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin Superior, and later attended Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College for his law enforcement degree. He was recognized with special awards at both schools. After graduation, Kaldor worked for the Duluth Police Department for five and a half years before moving to Lacrosse, Wisconsin, where he served as a field training officer, residence hall liaison and alcohol and diversion class coordinator.

The CPD currently has 20 sworn officers out of 24 budgeted positions, including command staff.
