Single-vehicle crash injures one

A 37-year-old man was injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Mahtowa Township. According to a news release from the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, the crash near the intersection of County Road 61 and Painted Lane was reported at 4:51 p.m. Sept. 17. A Ford Ranger had left the roadway and crashed into the ditch. The reporting party found a 37-year old male lying on the ground next to the pickup. Carlton County deputies, along with Carlton Fire and Ambulance, Mahtowa first responders and EMS from the Cloquet Area Fire District responded to the crash. Deputies learned the driver was northbound on County Road 61 before leaving the roadway. The driver was the lone occupant in the pickup and sustained injuries from the crash. He was transported to Essentia Hospital in Duluth.

Police said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The man’s name was not released by presstime Wednesday. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
