Lloyd A. Layon, 91, of Kettle River died Sept. 2, 2024, in New Perspective Senior Living in Cloquet. He was born July 13, 1933, in Moose Lake to Elmer and Amelia (Sippola) Layon. Lloyd grew up in Silver Township and attended school in Kettle River and later Moose Lake, graduating in 1951.
He attended Hibbing State Junior College and received his associate's degree in nursing.
Lloyd proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman from 1953 to 1955.
On April 4, 1959, Lloyd married Joyce Suominen in Minneapolis. They farmed in Kettle River, and Lloyd worked for many years as a manager at the Moose Lake State Hospital until retiring. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed in 1948; Kettle River American Legion; and the MMA union.
Lloyd enjoyed being in the woods, cutting wood, hunting, sitting under his shade tree, a good and interesting conversation, and a refreshing sauna followed by Barefoot Becky on the RFD-TV channel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, in 2023; two sisters and brother-in-law, Joyce Johnson, and Elaine and Norman Nikkola; and one brother, Roger Layon.
Lloyd will be lovingly remembered by his two children, Gene (Kathy) Layon and Sandy (Randy) Gram; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Layon; brother-in-law Walter Johnson; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Services were held Sept. 6 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kettle River. Burial with military honors was in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
