Obituary: Ben "Boy" Shabiash

Ben "Boy" Shabiash, 54, a lifelong resident of the Sawyer Community, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. He was born July 12, 1970, to Vincent and Sandra (Eno) Shabiash. Boy graduated from Carlton High School in 1988.

He was employed with the Fond du Lac Reservation for 26 years, serving as the Sawyer Center maintenance supervisor.

He was married to Kimberly Luing on Aug. 23, 2003.

Boy was an avid collector of sports memorabilia of all kinds, including historical and political items, and we can't forget about Elvis. He also enjoyed many types of music, everything from old country to classic rock. He also loved classic cars.

Boy was a private man, who was full of love and laughter. His family and close friends meant the most to him. His love for cartoons, especially "Looney Tunes," brought about a laughter that was incredibly contagious.

He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Boy is survived by his wife, Kimberly Shabiash; daughter, Shanita Luing; grandchildren, Audri, Amarreon, and Natalia Luing; sister, Brenda "Bren" Shabiash and her children, Vincent Mullen Jr. and Brody (Josie) Mullen; special cousin, Brad "Raff" (Mel) Blacketter; mother-in-law, Sharon Luing; brother-in-law, Chad Luing and his children, Kylee and Chase Luing; and best friend, Eric Davis "Thunder Buddy."

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services for Boy will be held Saturday, Sept 28, 2024, at the Sawyer Center. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and continues until the 11 a.m. memorial service with a lunch to follow. Inurnment will be at the Sawyer Cemetery. Arrangements are by Nelson Funeral Care.
