Obituary: Lela Tuominen

Lela Faye (Heckman) Tuominen, 89, passed away Sept. 19, 2024, at Brooke Manor in Brookston, where she resided for the last five years. She was born in Runeberg Township near Menahga, Minnesota July 15, 1935, to Nels and Aina Heckman.

Lela graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth in 1953 and was married to Eugene Tuominen on June 29, 1957.

Lela was an excellent bowler and avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. She enjoyed gardening and baking. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved attending their events.

Lela and Gene spent winters in Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, Eugene; and son, Dale.

She is survived by her daughters, Patti (Brian) McIntosh, Nancy Tuominen, Cindy (Eric) Brademan; sons, Dan Tuominen, David Tuominen; daughters-in-law, Paula Tuominen and Ginny Tuominen; grandchildren, Kristin, Kacey, Tyler, Tara (Zack), Ashley (Brandon), Trey (Harper), Dain (Krista), Jace, Elias and Kai; great-grandchildren, BrookeLynn, Danny, Charlotte, Anastacia, Jaden; and many nieces, nephews, friends; and inlaws, Kathy and Dennis Juusola, Michael and Cindy Tuominen.

A special thank you to Brooke Manor for their compassionate care. Also a thank you to St. Croix Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at Atkins Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet with a visitation at 10 a.m. and reception to follow the service. Feel free to wear Vikings attire to honor Lela's devotion to the team.

Private burial will be at Cedar Valley Cemetery north of Floodwood.
