Hope everyone is enjoying the great weather and getting ready for the Carlton community fall pickup, which will be a weeklong event beginning Oct. 14. Remember to bag leaves and pine needles and place them near the street. Place brush in a pile next to the bags.

For the City of Carlton, there are also dropoff areas for mulch and brush only. Do not bring logs.

The hours for the recycling shed are 2-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Gigantic Rummage Sale fundraiser for Carlton Hockey was a great success. The final tally was $9,015.38. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the sale. Your support was very much appreciated. Thank you to the hockey parents, community members and CIP crew who gave their time to help set up for the sale and clean up after the sale. Next year’s sale will be Sept 5. Get your donations ready.

New hours started this week at the Carlton Public Library, which will be open 1-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with two exceptions: the library is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month, and is closed on the third Thursday of the month. There will be an in-person or take-and-make craft planned for every Wednesday. The “Present Wednesdays” activity will continue through the winter.

The next Lions Burger Night is

5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at the Carlton VFW.

The Carlton VFW is having a Customer Appreciation starting at noon Oct. 13. Everyone is invited. Steve Solkela will play 7-9 p.m. Oct. 11. Enjoy Carlton County Animal Rescue bingo at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Finally, there’s a Halloween party with Perpetual Hiatus 7-11 p.m. Oct. 26.

The Four Seasons Sports Complex and Event Center will host “learn to skate” sessions 4-5 p.m. Oct. 7-11. Check out the website to register. Check out VFW’s Facebook page for updates, specials and events.

The always popular downtown Carlton Trick or Treat takes place 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Display a scarecrow by noon that day for judging. Volunteers and plastic bags wanted. The Bethesda Mat Makers are still making plastic mats out of clean plastic shopping bags for those in need. They meet at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton 9-11 a.m. every Tuesday. Bring bag donations to Northwoods Credit Union in Moose Lake and Cloquet, and Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton.
