Marie Judith Hunt, 88, of Cloquet, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at St Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, with her children by her side. She was born Aug. 17, 1936, in Astoria, Oregon to Theodore and Ann (Sodervick) Niemi. The family moved to the Brookston area in 1945.
After graduating from Brookston High School, Marie worked at the former Northwest Paper Company’s general office in Cloquet.
She married John Hunt on Aug. 5, 1955, and they were married for 69 years.
She enjoyed family and friends, cooking and baking, reading and crossword puzzles and traveling. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marie was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookston (now part of Faith Lutheran Church in Culver) for many years. She was active for many years in a birthday club in the Perch Lake Township area.
Marie attended countless baseball and softball games, soccer games, track and cross country meets, band, orchestra and choir concerts and high school musicals and plays.
Although she was a private person, she was a very kind and gentle soul, liked to laugh and always had a kind word.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Larry Niemi.
She is survived by husband, John; children, Jeff (Nanette) Hunt, Barb (Rick) Chabot and Jennifer (Steve) Collins; brother, Tom Niemi; sisters, Joan Sell and Jan (Jerry) Siedlecki; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and treasured cousins.
