A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Mary Jean Erickson, 88, peacefully passed away, comforted by her family, on Sept. 24, 2024. She was born April 2, 1936, to Roy and Josephine (Kupsc) Weedman in Cloquet.
Mary graduated from Cloquet High School in 1954. Following graduation, she worked
as a secretary for the Wood Conversion Company (now USG) in Cloquet.
She married Edwin Erickson on March 2, 1957.
She was a stay-at-home mom for her
three children, actively supporting their education and outside activities. Mary also gave
of her time volunteering to support local organizations such as the Community Memorial
Hospital auxiliary, AFS Exchange program, and amateur hockey association in Cloquet.
Mary and her husband enjoyed spending time at their lake home, and made many
wonderful memories traveling around the world with family and lifelong friends. She
was especially fond of the island of Maui, where she and her husband celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren.
Following the death of her husband in 2013, she relocated to Connecticut to be with her
daughter's family. She enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren, reading, and
watching romantic movies on the Hallmark Channel. Autumn was her favorite season in
New England.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Erickson; sister,
Theresa Rae Miesbauer; brother, Fred Weedman; and sister, Cathy Tate.
She is survived by her three children, Stephen Erickson of Santa Ana, California; David (Carmen) Erickson of Lewiston, Idaho; and Carol (Martin) Ross of Canton, Connecticut; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mary was adored by all for her calm and listening nature. Thank you for the happy and
fun memories that we will keep in our hearts always.
At Mary's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Visit Mary's "Book
