Violet Wendla Eckman, 96, of Cloquet, passed away Oct. 4, 2024. She was born June 13, 1928, to Charles and Wendla Lindquist in Duluth.
At the age of 2, Vi’s family moved to Arthyde, Minnesota, in Aitkin County, near her grandparents farm. Vi’s parents had migrated from Finland.
She attended school through eighth grade, after which she went to McGregor High School, where she graduated as salutatorian in 1946. She went on to attend Carey-Gaspard School of Business in Duluth.
On May 25, 1955, she married George Raymond Eckman. The couple lived in Wrenshall. In 1957 they moved near Moose Lake at Island Lake. They had an extra cabin on the property that they rented out.
Vi loved flowers and gardening. Much produce was shared with friends and neighbors.
Vi also loved bowling. She was part of the State Hospital Local 1092 bowling team for 15 years. She held different offices from secretary to treasury in the local 1092 union. During those years she pursued sales routes with Avon, Watkins, and Fuller Brush. She loved the travel and many of the people she met have remained friends through the years.
In 2008 Vi moved to Cloquet. On April 1, 2012, she moved to Larson Commons Assisted Living and lived there until moving to New Perspective Senior Living in December of 2021.
Vi was a member of the Worldwide Church of God, baptized into the body of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Wendlyn (Lilves) Lindquist; and spouse, George Raymond Eckman.
Violet was buried at Beaver Cemetery in Sturgeon Lake.
