Obituary: Paul Matthew Ward

Paul Matthew Ward, 91, of Albert Lea, Minnesota and formerly of Mahtowa and Moose Lake, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at St. John's on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea. Paul was born June 27, 1933, in Pelican Rapids to Paul and Agnes Ward. He lived most of his life in Minnesota and worked as a carpenter for Nordaas American Homes in southern Minnesota.

On Oct. 7, 1951, Paul married Doris Larson in Mahtowa.

He loved telling people about Jesus and sharing the word of the Lord. In his younger years, Paul enjoyed deer hunting and rebuilding tractors. He also loved to fish with his grandson, Nick, and tinker with small engines. You would often find Paul fixing up fishing poles and tackle boxes to give away to kids. In his later years, he lived in assisted living facilities in Moose Lake and Sandstone before moving to Albert Lea.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Gregory Ward; parents, Paul and Agnes Ward; sisters, Evelyn Ward, Marie Laursen, and Rosalie Rose; and a son-in-law, Thomas Grunewald.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his five children: Debra (Mel) Graupmann, Cheryl Grunewald, Julianne Sweetland, Theresa (Joe) Curtis, and Paul "PD" (Idell) Ward; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A private family service will be held with inurnment in Mount Salem Cemetery in Mahtowa.

Arrangements are by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home in Moose Lake.
