Things are looking up in Cromwell as the back alley has been blacktopped along with the municipal parking lot. Sure looks nice after decades of waiting for this project to come to fruition.

The last Cromwell YOT Dance was held Thursday this week. Dances will resume in March.

4-H Club members from across northern Minnesota, including those in Carlton County, participated in the 89th annual Northeast Livestock Show in Little Falls in September. Among the participants was Justine Anderson of Wright, with a grand champion grade nine plus in beef showmanship and blue ribbon in registered spring calf.

The Wright Senior Center hosts meetings every Wednesday at 1 p.m. and cribbage is played every Thursday at 6 p.m. Last week Ken Kangas and Terry Bump, below, won all six games, which is very rare. Congrats to them.

Sulo Walli celebrated his birthday at the center on Thursday with a family and friends cribbage tournament.

Funeral services for Heather Rae Anderson, 49, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at New Life Community Church in Floodwood.

The Villa Vista is holding a "Split the Pot" bingo fest at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 and also Nov. 30. Proceeds will go to buying supplies for craft projects. Craft supply donations are welcome.

There will be a fall choir recital at the school at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 and a band concert on Tuesday Oct. 29 at 6:30.

The members of Bethany Lutheran hold a 1:30 p.m. communion worship service at Villa vista on the last Monday of the month, which is Oct. 28. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Tim Bury, chairman of the North West Carlton County Ambulance District says it will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at the fire hall in Cromwell to decide on a lender, loan terms and the amount of down payment for the impending delivery of a new ambulance for the Cromwell-Wright Fire Department. The public is invited to attend and provide input.

There will be a Kantele and Finnish culture presentation at the Villa Vista at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

The fire department will sponsor "Trunk or Treat" on Halloween Thursday at the pavilion, 5-6:30 p.m. Anyone can participate by decorating their trunk and giving out treats to the children who attend.

Trick-or-treaters are welcome at the Villa Vista starting at 5:15 p.m.

The community club's Hunter's Supper is scheduled for Nov. 8. They are asking members and others to volunteer with prep, serving, and cleanup.

The Red Bird Bazaar will take place on Nov. 9 at the school.

Cromwell-Wright School District will have the weight room open for an hour beginning at 7 a.m. for students in grades 7-12.

The Cromwell-Wright school board and administration is currently working on updating the cell phone usage policy. The goal is to establish an "Away for the Day" policy that would prohibit the use of student cell phones and personal communication devices throughout the regular school day. Districts across the county, state, and nation are implementing similar policies in the best interest of learning for all students. The Area Clothing Depot in Cromwell is no longer open. You can make donations in Floodwood, at DAV boxes, or other area thrift stores.
