Archie Ray Maki, 68, of Floodwood, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. He was born April 2, 1956, to Edwin and Helen (Palmi) Maki in Cloquet. Archie spent his childhood in the Brookston area and attended Alborn schools, earning a diploma in 1974. He quickly found his career attending trade school for boilermaking and went on to work for the Boilermakers Local 647 Union for 36 years.
Archie was married to Sharyl Heine for 14 years and together they were blessed with two children. Throughout their lives, he was passionate about being a provider for his children and always made sure no one went without the necessities.
Though he at times had trouble expressing his love for his family in his own words, he made extra effort to send thoughtful cards to let them know how much he cared.
Archie was a man with a strong faith, and he attended several local churches over the years. He had an appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle as long as his health allowed. He loved listening to music and attending concerts.
Good food was important to him, and he enjoyed meals out at local restaurants.
Over the years he made many friends and kept busy visiting them whenever he was able.
He was previously very active in Alcoholics Anonymous throughout the state and especially in the Cloquet area.
Archie is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and niece. He is survived by his children, Adam and Brandy Maki; grandchildren, Kai, Silas, Nova, and Oliver; step-children, Rebecca and Tanya Johnson and their families; sisters, Lola Elstad and Cindy Fortune; four nephews; two nieces; several great-nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Services for Archie will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue until the 1:30 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow at
Arrowhead Cemetery in Brookston.
Everyone is welcome to join the
family for a gathering at the Arrowhead Town Hall immediately following the interment.
