Carol Jean Carlson, 80, of Cloquet passed into God's hands on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at New Perspective Senior Living in Cloquet. She was born Aug. 3, 1944, in Duluth to Henry and Fannie (Neiminen) Freeman. Carol graduated from Denfeld High School in 1962 and continued her education in college in the home health aide/homemaker field, later working for St. Louis County. After numerous years with the county, Carol decided to retire and start her own assisted living facility in her home in Kenwood.
After over 10 years, she sold her business and bought a farm in Jacobson. Carol loved her farm and had her share of farm animal companions for the feel of the farm life. She loved to sew, cook, garden, and plant her flowers. She also loved to be surrounded by friends and her family, and she always liked to take care of people. Carol was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bobby; and siblings, Doris Anderson, Charlene Littrell, Donald Freeman, Beverly Isaacson, Sandra Freeman, Richard Freeman, and Jerry Freeman. She is survived by her children, Ronald Couture, Julie Johnson, Thomas Couture, Joe Couture Jr., John Couture, and James (Tammy) Couture; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend, Gary Gray of Aitkin, who she enjoyed hunting and fishing with. She will be sadly and forever missed by all as she goes to rest with her mother, father, brothers, sisters, and son.
A special thank you to New Perspective Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for providing care during Carol's time there.
A Celebration of Life for Carol will take place 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. A ceremony will be held at 2 p.m.
