Letter to the Editor: Vote Boyechko, Peterson for SWCD

I encourage you to vote for Michelle Boyechko and Gary Peterson for Carlton County Soil & Water Conservation District supervisors.

Gary Peterson, of Barnum, has served as school teacher, coach and county commissioner. He is a long time SWCD supporter and cooperator and has worked with the district to improve forest health and wildlife habitat on his lands. He intends to continue working on watershed and environmental issues at the local level. He will do his best to support and encourage rural, sustainable family farms.

Michelle Boyechko, of Tamarack, is a livestock farmer with a special interest in local sustainable food systems, regenerative farming, community building and climate change readiness. She wants to make a positive difference in local communities.

Land Stewardship Action endorses Michelle and Gary.

SWCD board members are on the front lines of the maintenance, support, and promotion of sustainable ag practices at a local level. Board members are leaders in their local democracies who can influence land use practices in support of clean air, water, and soil and successful farmers. Through education, technical assistance, and financial assistance, a SWCD board member can foster a new land ethic in the community.
