Soccer players honored after State

Accolades continue to pour in for area soccer players as All-State and All-Tournament teams were announced after the Minnesota State High School Soccer Tournament ended last week.

Lauren Hughes of Cloquet/Carlton was named to first team All-State in Class AA and Reese Kuklinski of Esko was named first team All-State in Class A.

“Reese is a true leader of our program,” said Esko coach Sharon Lahtii. “Academically, she is a 4.0 student, she mentors our younger players and is positive under pressure. Reese has a bright future ahead of her at Minot State.”

Hughes reached her milestone because of her competitive nature, Cloquet/Carlton head coach Dustin Randall said. “Lauren is a very competitive girl. She pushes herself and her team, she’s always trying to win and it doesn’t matter what it is. She always is trying to direct her team and works hard both on offense and defense. She is a huge part of our success.”

Kuklinski was joined on the All-State team by Britta Koski, who was named to the second team.

Both Cloquet/Carlton and Esko girls teams qualified for the state tournament in their respective classes, with Esko taking third place in Class A.

Kuklinski and Koski also were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Cloquet/Carlton goalie Rylee Senich was named to the Class AA All-Tournament team.

For the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys team, Hudson Snesrud was named to the Class AA All-Tournament team.

Senior Ben Schramm was named first team All-State in Class AA and was a finalist (top five) for Mr. Soccer for Class AA. Schramm was injured in the playoffs and unable to play in the state quarterfinal game. Blake School defeated the Lumberjacks 4-2.
