James Alfred "Jim" White, 91, of Farmington, Minnesota and formerly of Carlton, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at home surrounded by family. He was born on March 28, 1933, in Cloquet, the son of Alfred and Edna (Larson) White.
Jim served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. He worked at Conwed, where he met his wife, Mary Lou VanDerWerff. They married on Aug. 28, 1965. They had two children, Darrell and Devorah. Jim and Mary raised their family on Chub Lake in Carlton, where they lived for 57 years before moving to Farmington in 2022 to be closer to family.
Jim retired from Barko Hydraulics as a welder in 1996. Since then, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and camping with his wife, grandkids, and dog, Odie, as well as tinkering in his garage. Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to start up a conversation with anyone he'd come across.
Jim was preceded in death by his siblings Pete White, Bobby White and Donna Smith; and best friend, Odie.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary; son, Darrell (Missy) White; daughter, Debbie (Dan) Weltzin; grandsons, Austin and Chase Weltzin; siblings Shirley Burton and Dan White; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Tilly.
Visitation: 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Nov. 30 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown. A reception will follow the service. Entombment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.
