Obituary: Karin Towslee

Karin Ann Towslee, 74, passed away Nov. 15, 2024.

Karin had been blessed with lifelong friends whom she valued and shared life, time, and raising children with. Karin was employed at Cloquet Dental for 35 years and many in the community grew up knowing her as the face of the office. She enjoyed the people she worked with and had a favorite.

Karin was known for her headstrong personality, and was always looking out for the people she loved. She was there for so many people, lending an ear whenever you may have needed it.

Karin valued her walks in her field. Every day she would walk, rain, snow or shine. She lived at her property for 50 years and poured herself into planting gardens, making trails, planning and making improvements, and just being in the moment. If you came to visit in the spring, you would more than likely catch her tending to those gardens. Happy to see you, she would set aside whatever task she was doing and sit to visit on the deck.

If you came to see her in the summer, she would be found in the yard with a book looking out across the field, enjoying the scenery. In the fall, you might come to visit and get assigned a chore as there was always work to do. Come winter, Karin was tucked away in her sunroom with her plants.

Whatever season you came to visit, you became her focus, always eager to listen. If you ever needed a place of calm, she was that place, if you needed to vent, she would help focus the issue, if you came to share joy, she doubled it.

She will be missed.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Larry Towslee; her three children and their spouses, Nathan and Anne Towslee, Bethany Towslee, and Ruth and Brian Ostoff; grandchildren, Willow Towslee, Devan Towslee, Deklin Towslee, and Conan Towslee; brother, Terrance Reed and his wife, Ginny; niece, Laurie Hayward and her family and Mary Eggen and her family; and nephew, Terrance Reed II and his family. Karin is also survived by her two adoptive sons, Martin Martiness and Shawn Zarate; an adoptive daughter, Jenifer Carl; and step-family, Pat, Carol, Jeff, and Dave Harper and their families.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Reed; mother, Mary Reed; brothers, David and Pete Reed; nieces, Michele Eggen and Jenny Kisrow; great nephew, Nicholas Donald Hayward; stepmother, Marion Harper-Reed; and stepbrothers, Mike and Greg Harper.

Visitation: 11 a.m. until the noon memorial service. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet.
