Cloquet holiday celebration peaks on Saturday
Cloquet's sneak peek of old St. Nick and all things Christmas is finally here.
The annual Santa's Home for the Holidays festivities kicked off Thursday with "Letters to Santa" at Members Cooperative Credit Union and storytime with Santa at the library, followed by a free chili feed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, courtesy of the Cloquet and Fond du Lac police departments.
Today, Friday, Dec. 6, activities move to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with a $10 spaghetti dinner, crafts and bake sale. Photos with Santa are part of the meal purchase.
The fun rolls like a snowball going downhill on Saturday, when the entire city jumps on board.
Start the day with a pancake breakfast from Boys Scouts at Churchill Elementary, and stay for the Holiday Expo, featuring more than 100 vendors, crafters and artists from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission $5. There are also holiday sales and food Saturday at Zion Lutheran and Our Redeemer Lutheran churches starting at 9 a.m.
There's also food and a market at the Cloquet American Legion 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cloquet VFW at 210 Arch St.
Need Christmas photos? Get your dog or cat's picture with Santa from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cloquet Animal Hospital, 122 Second St. Cost is $15 for digital photos only.
Community Memorial Hospital and Raiter Clinic will give away coats for young and old, hats and gloves from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the clinic lobby, 417 Skyline Blvd.
It's all about kids and families at Wood City Motors, 701 Washington Ave., where there are Christmas cookies to decorate 1-4 p.m. and free magic shows at 1:30 and 3 p.m.
All ages are invited to sing Christmas carols and make holiday crafts at the Carlton County Historical Society 2-4:30 p.m.
Eat s'mores and stay warm by the fire rings at the Cloquet Avenue fire station 4-5 p.m., in the lead up to the 5 p.m. Santa's Home for the Holidays parade, which travels down Cloquet Avenue from 18th to 8th streets. Hang around and enjoy the fireworks over downtown Cloquet and Veterans Park immediately following the parade.
"We hope people embrace the Minnesota winter and come out to spend time with the community and maybe pick up some Christmas presents while they're at it," said festival co-coordinator Jana Peterson. "Just make sure you dress for the weather."
