Alex Mari Gross (formerly named "Jill") of Cloquet was called home by her Heavenly Father on Nov. 26, 2024. She was born on Aug. 20, 1965.
Alex is survived by her sister, Berta Swoverland of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; stepsister, Michelle Schubitzke of Duluth; nephew, Paul Campbell of Las Vegas; nieces, Jennifer Campbell and Stephanie Hurst, both of Sheboygan Falls; uncle, Gary Anton of Carlton; and many cousins.
Alex was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine McDonald and Bert Gross; stepfather, Robert McDonald; son, Bryan Merrill; and life partner Brian Hendrickson.
She was a proud mother of her only son, Bryan, and her favorite pastime was watching him play sports. There was nowhere she would rather be than cheering him on from the bleachers.
When Bryan passed away unexpectedly at the age of 22, part of Alex died with him, and she was never the same.
Alex was a natural-born caretaker. She took great pleasure in taking care of those around her, including her mother, stepfather and life partner prior to their passing. Helping individuals with barriers re-enter the workforce was her most recent, most rewarding and favorite job, which she had held for the last four years.
When not working, Alex could be found taking long car rides with no destination in mind. She loved theme parks and there was not a ride she feared. She also enjoyed playing miniature golf, bowling and casinos. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Wild fan. Over the last few years, she enjoyed vacations with family to Puerto Vallarta, a seven-day cruise, and Wisconsin Dells.
Alex and her caring spirit will be greatly missed by those that knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
