Obituary: Arthur L. Martin

Arthur L. Martin, age 90 of Cloquet, Minnesota, passed away Sunday Dec. 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 5, 1934 in Cloquet, the son of Lester and Caroline (Peach) Martin. He married Janet Vaineo on Sept. 12, 1953.

Art lived life to the fullest and had many passions, drag racing, flying his plane, fishing, hunting, golfing, blueberry picking, building, and fixing things. He loved spending time with his family, friends and most of all his grandchildren.

He left us with so many memories, 56 seasons at the cabin, 40+ years of using his skills as a bush pilot to fly folks into numerous lakes to fish, serving up many shore lunches and millions of pancakes, picking blueberries in his secret patch, all of which happened at his favorite place in Canada. There was drag racing in Rock Falls, the annual Christmas bonfire and he always had a project going somewhere and was always willing to give a hand to help fix things for friends and family. He always loved to supervise. He will be greatly missed but never not forgotten.

Art was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Janet; son, Steven Ray; siblings Laverne Anderson, Lorraine Crotteau, Edwin Martin and Kenneth Martin.

He is survived by his significant other Linda Way; daughter-in-law Vickie Martin; children Dave (Debi) Martin, Deb (John) Hoban, Kevin Martin, Craig Martin, Jeff Martin, Andrea Hanek; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.

His visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2025 at the Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet, Minnesota.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Cloquet. There will be a 10 a.m. visitation followed by a 11 a.m. service, with a luncheon to follow at the church. An Interment will follow in the spring.
