Rose Marie Liimatainen, 100, passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born in Cloquet Oct. 5, 1924, to Walter and Hilda Nelson. Rose was united in marriage to Reuben Liimatainen on Jan. 12, 1946.
Rose worked as an elementary school aide, was known as “Grandma Rose” at Time for Tots Preschool, and was the bookkeeper for Reuben’s Hardware.
She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitch, crossword puzzles, camping, and motorcycling with Reuben. She was the oldest active member at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she was involved with Sunday school and Ladies Aide. She was also active with TOPS, Friends of the Library, and North Country Riders.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; her parents; and sister Jane Salo.
Rose is survived by her children, Julie (Roger) Lyytinen, Joan (Dennis) Minks and Jolene (Donald) Wagner; sister Marjorie Kangas; grandchildren, Kerry (Matt) Grimes, Scott (Jessica) Lyytinen, Brian Minks, Caileen (Alex) Ostenson, Sarah (Zach) Hendrickson, Matthew (Karla) Wagner and Tanner Wagner; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and beloved coffee friends.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Dec. 21, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Burial will be held at a later date.
