Obituary: Eileen Evelyn VanderMeiden

Eileen Evelyn VanderMeiden, 90, of Cloquet, Minnesota, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Eileen was born on July 14, 1934 in Milaca, Minnesota to Milo and Mae Lincoln.

She was known for her steadfast faith in Christ, kind and compassionate nature, and strong love for her family. Her example won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of love and faith. She was known for being so incredibly full of life; she had a gift for humor and optimism that was shown through her constant smiling and laughter. She truly touched the lives of each person that was fortunate enough to meet her.

After graduating from Patrick Henry High School, she attended Northwestern Bible College, earning an Associate’s degree. It was there she met Bernard VanderMeiden. The couple were married the following year on June 15, 1956 at Brookdale Covenant Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Over the years Eileen worked for Northern States Power, White Drug Store, and as a chiropractic assistant at Parkhurst Chiropractic. She was also a licensed massage therapist.

Married for 53 years, Eileen and Bernie raised their four children (Kirk, Mark, Kent, and Cari) in Pequot, Minnesota, and Cloquet, Minnesota. The heart of the VanderMeiden family, Eileen shaped her children’s lives through her love, and tireless Christian example. Eileen loved doing anything that involved spending time with her family, whether it be camping, four-wheeling, canoeing, ice fishing at Lake of the Woods, or spending time at the lake cabin. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting. Eileen was a lover of music; she found great joy in listening to her granddaughters Calli, Grace, and Anja play the piano.

Eileen is survived by her children: Mark (Sarah) VanderMeiden, Kent (Frances) VanderMeiden, Cari Lamirande, and Kirk VanderMeiden; grandchildren Calli Lamirande, Grace VanderMeiden, Anja VanderMeiden, Cora Bushey and Caleb

VanderMeiden; sister Delpha (Jim) Heath; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, at 801 14th Street in Cloquet, MN is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave an online condolence or to sign the guestbook, please visit http://www.atkinsnorthlandfuneralhome.com.

A small private family service will be held at a later date.
