Obituary: Shirley Jean Olson

Shirley Jean Olson passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024 at her residence on Little Sand Lake, Britt, Minnesota.

Shirley was born on October 9, 1940 in Sandstone, Minnesota, to Hanley and Geraldine (Jepsen) Olson.

She graduated from Roosevelt High School and then attended the Minnesota School of Business. Shirley married Dennis Olson on March 3, 1962 in Virginia. They made their home in Cloquet were they raised their 3 sons and both worked in the school. They returned to Virginia in 1990 and made their cabin their permeant home.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, cross country skiing, time on the lake, her walks with her good friend Sandy, and especially her time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Lester.

Shirley is survived by 3 children, Kyle (Krissy), Keith (Dianna), and Kevin (Gina); 5 grandchildren, Jesse (Breanna), Josey, Hanna (Bazil), Heather (Noah), and Hunter (Mikerra); 4 great-grandchildren, James, Myla, Marlie, and Mariano; brother, Larry (Ardy), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at Saints John and Paul Episcopal Church in Virginia with Deacon Kim Heise officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Landmark Funeral Home in Virginia.
